We have begun to focus on healthy eating over the past week or so and will be continuing to do so moving forward. We will be investigating many different sections from a program designed by the Agriculture and Food Museum of Canada (healthy snacks, balanced diet, being active, vegetables and fruit, water, whole grains) called Healthy Kids Quest.
Just wanted to send a reminder that (if possible) students were asked to try and bring in processed food items this week. If we are able to get a variety of items with different countries of origin it would be very helpful. Anything that you already have on hand in the house will work (e.g., cereal boxes, canned foods, boxes from granola bars, etc...). We are going to be investigating number of ingredients as well as country of origin and follow up with discussions about the nutritional value difference between processed and unprocessed foods. We will also be talking about how the origins of food items (where it is grown, how it is made, etc..) affect its nutritional value and the environmental impact. |
